The Toyota FT-1 concept is a pure performance, track-focused sports car model created by CALTY Design Research, Toyota’s North American Design branch.
The FT-1 concept is a symbol that captures elements of the emotion and energy we can expect to see in future Toyota vehicles designs.
Its design is heavily influenced by Toyota’s long sports car tradition that includes vehicles such as 2000GT, Celica, Supra & most recently, FT-86.
The news about Toyota and BMW building cars together isn’t new, as the two companies finalized the partnership in January of 2013, but thanks to the Nikkei Asian Review, we’ve got some rumors as to what the two companies have been working on. Those plans revolve around the next-generation BMW Z4 and a revival of the famed Toyota Supra.
It might not actually be called “Supra”
And that’s going to be rather disheartening for a lot of people to hear. As the Gen-Y car-buying market begins to bloom, many are looking for familiar nameplates. It brings back a sense of nostalgia, a sense of what was once great. As of now, Toyota tells us that the Supra moniker is only but a “candidate” in a long list of possible names for the new sportscar.
It’s going to be hybrid
Strike two, for many Supra faithful. The 2JZ (twin-turbo, inline-six) engine was well-loved for its ability to churn out massive amounts of aftermarket power. But as with many hybrid powertrains we see today, many shops tend to stay out of harms way, as working on such a vehicle gets overly complicated and expensive.
The next Z4 is a car BMW admits would never have happened if hybrid partner, Toyota, hadn’t suggested let slip that it wanted to build a belated replacement for its ultra-masculine Supra. Already seen in three- and four-cylinder variants with both MINI and BMW, the modular concept will reach out to at least 250 kW of power (up from 225 kW) and around 450 Nm of torque in the stretch to six cylinders.
It will mate a more advanced turbocharging system with state-of-the-art direct injection bolted to an all-alloy block.
The Concept of Toyota Supra was also showcased in the Detroit as 2015 / 2016 Toyota Supra FT-1 with noticeable sporty look. As the pricing of 2015 Toyota Supra is concerned, it is estimated that Toyota will release the 2015 / 2016 sport model in the price range of US $ 40,000 to US$ 50, 000 depending upon the different versions of the car.
The one thing that sets Toyota Supra apart form the competition is the look and designing of the car. The exterior of the Toyota Supra is displayed with modification in designs in various concept preview of the car.
The car just looks awesome in Red and White color in its exterior look and also has various options for exterior colors like black and many more. It is having a huge alloy wheels with having sporty curves which makes the Toyota Supra looks just amazing.
Supra branded its name by extremely well performance numbers. Expect that 2015 / 2016 Toyota Supra won’t be in remnant after its supercars competitors. When 2015 Toyota Supra enters the sales, it will be powerful as their opponents. Engine options are still a topic of argue inside the company and it is not decided yet which drive unit will be used.
There are talks about hybrid version. In the mix there is a 3.5 liter V6 unit producing 350 HP and 372 Nm of torque. On the other side is 5-l V8 powertrain with 450 horsepower and 520 Nm of torque. So far, only hybrid option of 2015 Toyota Supra is pretty certain. Expect top speed of petrol engine, whichever it be, to get around 275 km/h.
Since it is still in development phase, we can’t expect the new Supra before 2015. Price is expected to be somewhere between $40.000 and $60,000. It is not confirmed yet, but according to early price prediction and rumors from insiders, 2015 Toyota Supra will be Toyota’s No1 vehicle for the 2015 year.
